Banti

Nalbi wins his first round match in just over an hour. I smell an upset brewing in Bercy!

Jenny

Banti, would you believe I missed it. No cable net or phone, all crashed for a couple of hours just at the start of his match. I saw 2 games and bang! Did you see it?! The pundits said later he was in top form.

Jenny

Banti, Our comms said yesterday other players go to watch Nalbandian practice!

Bettyjane

Oh man---what happened to Misha!? Retired in his match today???

Banti

Jenny I missed it, didn't Wanta jinx him ! Would have prefered Rafa as a victim but Andy will do. Monaco won as well.

Jenny

I don't know, Bettyjane - I like watching Misha play, infact I saw some of his match, he didn't seem himself though, maybe he was hurting somewhere or not feeling well, I believe he pulled out of Valencia as sick. I missed the retirement part today.

LOL Banti, you are awful! Glad Pico got through.

SE

I'm sorry, but who is Misha?? I can never keep up with these nicknames...I just never hear them anywhere else to make the connection.

Barbara

SE, Misha = Mikhail Youzhny from Russia

chieko

Thank you Barbara san, I did not know either (thanks to SE san also) but now I do not have to ask. Misha san=Mikhail Youzhny from Russia, and he is not related to Mirka san.

SE

Thanks, Barbara. I didn't check to see who was eliminated.

Bettyjane

Jen thanks for the info. I knew Misha had a viral infection a couple of tournaments ago. Perhaps it's lingering. Damn!

TheHumbleOne

Too bad for Mr. Youzhny, I thought he had a great year and deserved to make it to London for the year-end bash... :)

SE

I was very impressed with Golubev's form during his match against Simon.
I like his one-handed backhand. It reminds me somewhat of Guga Kuerten's backhand.

M

If D-Nal wins I called it :-)

xeres

What time is Nalby scheduled to play today ? London/Paris time that is

Jenny

12-30 GMT. 13.30 CET. We hear you M!!

xeres

Woohoo! Thanks a ton Jenny. You're the best :)

Sol

Lol, is anyone here cheering for MAndy?

It sucks that I won't be able to watch. Jenny, I expect to read your perfect live commentary later ;)

Enjoy

Jenny

I will post, but it will have to be post match, Sol. I hope Nalby doesn't frustrate me so much that I might feel the urge to throw my computer out of the window! I'll be watching it on TV which is great and healthier for my eyes and the computer!

We're off!

Jill

Nalbandian breaks, keep it up Nalby show him how it's done!

Jenny

Hi Jill! 5-2 - Keep it up el Rey David!

Jenny

And first set 6-2. Jill, have you noticed how quiet the comms are? That amuses me more than anything!

Barbara

Nalbandian is playing fantastic tennis!

Jenny

Isn't he just, Barbara. He mustn't lose focus now. As one of our comms said in the first set, he's making Andy look 'pedestrian'. Murray off to a good second set start by holding serve.

Banti

Wow just tuning in, Nalbi taking it to Murray. Such an amazing talent. No one outside of Roger is this entertaining to watch in tennis!

And lol at Murray serving and volleying every point to adjust!:) Unreal!

Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi sr. the 3rd

Good point Banti. I#m tuned in to this match as well. Amazing serves by Nalbandian. Not so by Murray, although he's better in this second set.

Banti

Hey Sir V, yeah i'm guessing the serve is what he worked on recently, noticeably better from their last meeting in Toronto. Murray's bizarre attacking of the net seems to be working so far. As Roger says about MAndy, he's a great tacticioner.

Jenny

Serve letting Nalby down right now. Bang goes the racquet! First break Murray.

Banti

Totally in control of match ----> were going to a 3rd set. Really hope Nalbi can pull it together, he's so due for a big win.

Jenny

A set apiece.

Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi sr. the 3rd

Aye. Murray won 12/14 net points and Nalbandian 2/4 or something. Total role reversal! Murray has just unlocked his net game in this match. Nalbandian has played very strange in this second set.

Jenny

Nalby looking sloppy. Okay David, get with it.

Banti

I can't help but thinking Nalby has a fitness issue. His game is so fine tuned to his movement and when that's not working well everything falls apart.

Jenny

I think it's more about his serve on this occasion, Banti.

Banti

I so want to put both my hands on Nalby's shoulders and tell him to wake up, pump yourself up, and for heavens sakes win this. Or maybe just sneak up behind him and shoot him in the rear end with a shot of Adrenaline.

Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi sr. the 3rd

Murray's nintendo-rabid hand just let him down

Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi sr. the 3rd

Is it me or does Nalbanidan look like a reptilian creature of the desert?

Jenny

You are funny, Banti. Let's see how Murray's wrist holds up.

Jenny

It's holding up, nothing wrong with that serve.

Barbara

How can someone with wrist injury serve 200+ km/h?

Jenny

LOL Sir V - can't say I've noticed!

Serran

Hey guys! Looks like I got here just in time! :D How are Nalby and Murray holding up? Murray having problems with his wrist from what I read...

Jenny

Exactly, Barbara.

Banti

@SirV lol he does look reptilian. Novak is scared to death of him from what I hear.

@Jenny.. Thanks but just stressed here:) Really would be something if David pulls this off. Thinking that injury timeout may have given him that extra bit of energy to maybe pull this off?

Banti

Game set and match Murray. David really could have won this, unfortunate. Take care you all, enjoy the rest of your day.

Serran

That was quick :( I'm sorry for David, but I guess Murray was too good.

Jenny

Go chill out Banti, I can imagine how you feel. Aw David, so many errors, however did you let that happen, it isn't that he doesn't have the ability to lift his level and that is what's so frustrating. Kudos to Murray for pulling it off.

Jenny

Llodra 5-2 up against Isner, lst set.

Jill

Oh hell, what a disappointment. As an aside why oh why with all his money can Murray never get a proper haircut? Will look forward to seeing the Fed/Gasquet match now and won't even mind if Fed loses. As others have said he could do with the rest before the WTF. Have got afternoon and evening tickets for alternate days to make sure I see everyone. Can't wait.

clare

Bummer,

Forgot to tape and now I remember! But no upsets!
Isner on now and glad I didn't miss Federer, bet that will be a good match!

xeres

I feel let down by Nalby :( I mean he was playing so well, lost his concentration and never really got it back.

I can't watch anymore tennis today. *Sniff*

Jenny

Michael through playing great tennis, love watching his 'old fashioned' and elegant style. Nalby teases us with his inconsistent genius, we get high on the fix and then it's withdrawal symptoms.

Serran

Fantastic match from Roger today. I hadn't seem him playing this good in a long time.

Too bad for Gasquet, because he played a nice match I thought. Good to have him back, I hope he does better next season.

Sol

@Serran, I thought he played better in his first matches in Basel. Maybe today's match seemed less entertaining because he was very dominant. Too bad it was against Richie. Anyone know who Fed's next opponent is?
Any predictions for Simon v. Sod?

M

Roger will face the Neck Stepper again in his next round.

Sol

Thanks, M.
The way Roger has been playing in the last couple of months, noone outside the top-4 seems to be a real threat to him. It's a new feeling, this confidence I have in him whenever I watch him play lately, no anxiety attacks, no arrythmia, no throwing stuff on my tv... it's nice.

Jenny

The world's top eight have now been decided. The remaining possible contenders Melzer and Verdasco are out. David and Andy R have made it! Well done!

Jenny

Ferru lost to Melzer, but he still fought all the way, blissfully unaware mid-match that he had qualified. Here are our confirmed Top 8 for London.

Llodra is playing really well against Novak. Up to serve for the match now..

Jenny

Mica is through to the quarters in straights. Yay for the serve/vollyers and a 30yr old vet with an elegant unique style. Sorry Nole and his fsns, but Mica is tricky when his lefty booming serve is on, plus he's a net man.

Well done, champions!

M

LOL @ "no arrythmia", Sol.

Roger definitely seems focused and consistent. And like he comes to each match with a plan, instead of improvising his way through the whole thing ...
Some credit to Padrino Annacone; I think -- they seem to be working on mental as well as physical game components, doing very well together.
And Roger's shots look lovely. Precision placement.

Jill

Great news Jenny, so I will see Ferru at the O2. Wayhaaaaaaaay. So pleased for Llodra, the "oldies' have been doing really well this year. Sorry for Novak am really coming to appreciate him. Must have been a disappointment as the defending champ and loss of many points but he was very gracious in defeat and still stopped to sign for fans. Hope he rests up and is ready for WTF and Davis Cup.

M

Nole has grown on me this year too, Jill. I think he'll be looking to do very very well in Davis Cup.

So excited for you; sounds like you'll have great WTF seats! I hope you'll have a wonderful time!

Jill

Thank you M, I will try and report back (esp re Rog, Rafa and David).
Looks like determined Davydenko is going o get the better of brittle Berdych once again. Go Davy, so sorry he won't be at the WTF to defend his title.

Jenny

Davy has just won, I'm so pleased for him.

Jill, LOL I thought the WTF news would please you - we'll expect a coherant report from the O2! I agree, Nole was a sweetie today. I'm sure he'll make up his loss of points next season, but right now he needs to rest his body and soul before the DC final and the WTF.

Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi sr. the 3rd

Yes Jenny, I am happy for Nikolai too. The beautiful Mrs Davydenko was seen again in resplendent form after a long time. She is truly a model tennis wife! Whasssisname berdych has retired for the rest of the season after the second set.

SE

Unstoppable!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epvST3AKwqE

Jenny

LOL Sir V, I saw Mrs D and thought of you! Berdy did indeed mentally clock off early, mind you, he has played a lot of tennis and DC, so I won't be too tough on him. Nikolay would have fought to the bitter end and he seemed pleased with the result.

Jenny

Well played Roger!

Jenny

M, I was thinking, I hope the top 8 get some decent fitting suits this year, For goodness, sake, we have Savile Row in London!

Sol

Woohoo Roger!
He's unstoppable. And I say that without even caring about jinxing it. I saw the end of the second set and he was looking good.

Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi sr. the 3rd

Jenny, maybe I should announce a fictitious birthday and request TP to flood the website with pictures of the Beautiful Mrs Davydenko. God! I could write a novel with that title!

Jenny

LOL Go for it Sir V! I think she's beautiful too.

Banti

Injury time out from Murray any time now.

Banti

"Jenny, maybe I should announce a fictitious birthday and request TP to flood the website with pictures of the Beautiful Mrs Davydenko."

LOL I was just thinking of doing this on your behalf Sir V:)

Jenny

No choke from Marin this time, good boy, he takes the second set.

Banti

Murray and his get out of jail cards, amazing really. Hoping he's exhausted them if he meets Roger on Saturday.

Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi sr. the 3rd

I just had to write this ode to Mrs Davydenko. The inspiration is drawn from 'Very bad Poetry.' It's a wonderful book of bad poetry and I recommend it to you with my best compliments. The title of this ode however, is 'O beautiful Mrs Davydenko!'
..............................

O beautiful Mrs Davydenko
you jewel of prime womanhood
how inspiring is your sight
For Kolya to get it right
As pride for your husband ripples in your smile
His racket craft beams with fresh guile
Smile Irina and blossom yet again
Smother Kolya with love, laughter and rain
Comfort him with, but a look of your kind eyes.
Your soothing palms on his face. His hapless mortal's fate in the hands of a goddess...
Nikolai you lucky b*****d!

Banti

Wow Sir :) Inspired a bit?

Jenny

Wow Sir V! This comes from a true admirer of Mrs D. TP, I reckon this merits a photo for Sir V.

chieko

I am so very impressed by this lovely peom!! This should be forwarded to Mr. Davyenko's website . I hope she can read it. Beautiful thanks you.

Ricke

So proud of my Andy for staying the course, fighting hard and winning the last qualifying spot. Everyone write him off, but he made it again this year!

Jenny

Ricke, I was rooting for David and Andy to get those last two spots, imo they deserve it, stats don't lie, great players and vets too.

Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi sr. the 3rd

Why, thank you, Jenny, Banti, Chieko. I guess the last line of the Ode says it all.

Well, screw the fictitious birthday. I don't need an excuse like that to admire Mrs D on this website. TP, great king of independent thought, reincarnation of Howard Roark and keeper of the GOAT, may I please get to savour a photograph of the beautiful Irina Davydenko holding her husband's tiny head in her beautiful, massive hands...(much the same way a beach volleyball is held before being launched over the other side of the net)

Or any other picture that you prefer of Mrs D. Thank you TP.

xeres

Llodra played BEAUTIFUL tennis.I got goosebumps just watching him play.I was literally glued to the idiot box.WTA's loss is Mica's gain. Allez !

bunnee

roger must be thrilled with djoker's exit, nadal's injury & murray's 3-setter...

he's thinking now: "let the two andys battle it out & the remaining tomato cans tumble. this year is my ONE & ONLY CHANCE in paris." for shame if he doesn't snag the title.

bunnee

T. P. -- are you situated in cali??? or the northwest somewhere?

Dee

Hello Hello Hello from LA!Missing tennis.Checked some news and surprised to hear about Djokovic.

Jenny

Xeres, join the club, I love watching Mica play too. Amelie is certainly working wonders, although I think this is more about tactics and confidence, Michael always had the game. Funny that, Amelie had a beautiful game too. but lacked confidence. Well done Amelie and Allez Mica!

Hi Dee!

Jenny

Re WTF. Right now, Verdasco is the first alternate, followed by Melzer. Melzer and Petzschner have qualified in doubles as champs, [qually appears to work different in doubs] so they will be coming to London. Actually I'm glad for Melzer having missed out on singles qualification.

Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi sr. the 3rd

Lodra's playing some hi-class serve and volley here. it's great to watch. Also good to see Mrs Lodra cheering her husband. She has a nice cherubic sweet face. Still a distant second to Mrs D who must undoubtedly be the GOAT of tennis wives!

Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi sr. the 3rd

First set to Llodra. 8 straight points including the first game of the second. Precision bomb serving and some of the best volleys I've ever seen since....whenever. Llodra's officially in the zone.

Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi sr. the 3rd

Oh Heaven! The screen showed both Mrs D and Mrs L! And LLodra's won. The most dominating performance in Paris so far.

kitty

Glad Ferru made it! Equally or more glad the faker Vernando Fiasco did not make it, so no freebies for nadal

Jenny

He's just great to watch when he's in full flow. Nikolay won't beat him at the net, too much talent in that department, plus the big boom serve.

Wow! The man from Paris through to the semi-final in Paris, very fitting. LOL Sir V and the wives. Anyway Mr and Mrs D off on their holidays.

Banti

I've never seen Llodra play! Super curious now. Saw the highlights from yesterday but they didn't show to much. Hoping I can catch the Fed match.

kitty

Why can't I see my recent posts? Also is there a reply option in here, would be useful, thx

kitty
