Rafa age 34, Novak age 33.
And the other 6 players in the field?
At age 28, Schwartzman has made it past R4 in only 2 non-clay Grand Slams.
[ OTOH, at 5'7" and 141 lbs, one could argue that we're lucky to have heard of him at all ]
At age 27, Thiem has made it past R4 in only 3 non-clay Grand Slams.
At age 24, Medvedev has made it past R4 in only 2 non-clay Grand Slams.
At age 23, Zverev has made it past R4 in only 2 non-clay Grand Slams.
At age 23, Rublev has made it past R4 in only 2 non-clay Grand Slams.
At age 22, Tsitsipas has made it past R4 in only 1 non Grand Slam.
So...
On paper, at least --- absolutely SCINTILLATING, no>

OTOH, in 16 (?) years as a pro, Nadal has won just one indoor tournament and that too in 2005. Proven track record of failure.
That leaves just Djokovic where past performance is no guarantee of future returns. He seems to have lost it anyway. Movement is slow and is bailing out early on points with a high risk shot. Novak without patience is like Jordan without the jump shot.

Thought for sure that Dominic was gonna pull a Roger...

And...Rafa pulls a Rafa.

Sweet revenge for Medvedev. To come back after Rafa served for the match, considering what Rafa did to him at the WTF last year.

For STATS fans, like ME --- although I don't religiously live-and-die by them ---
isn't it weird-as-all-hell that, after SEVEN consecutive years of ATP Finals winners
having 3 or more Slams under their belts,
we now have had 4 consecutive years with.....collectively.....ZERO!.....Slam wins under their belts?
[ Dimitrov, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Medvedev ]
Uhhh...Hmmmmmmmmm...
