Jenny

LOL TP - just testing

bunnee

hi jenny!

Jenny

Hi Bunnee, this is better, eh?!

Jenny

Well done, TP!

bunnee

much much better. nice colours, layout, TOTAL CONTROL, wot took us so long!...

Barbara

What next, TP?

Stella

ypu, better. Now what will I do with my newly acquired HTML skills ?

bunnee

federer vs tipsy: what's the vibe surrounding roger & mr intellectual?

Jenny

I'm more than happy, love this site, ease of posting and lay-out, plus Ferru and Nalby won today.

M

LOL, TP. :-D

D-Nal one step closer to a semi with Roger.
*frets*

Assuming Roger gets past the professor. Roger looks in form, but after Janko took A-Rod out in front of his home crowd, I never rule out an upset.

Vamos Ferru!

Jenny

Hey M - go to free streams, I posted a link LOL!

banti

Lol, wow now i'm relieved. You really had to put us though that ha?

Ricke

Thanks for the Roddick photos. Love the Lacoste hat he is wearing.

chieko

Hi everyone!!

xeres

Teeps !

Sol

I'm liking this new site you bought, Teep. So you're the king on your throne now. Good for you.
Plus, we already have a thread for Valencia + Basel. Luxury.

Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi sr. the 3rd

After moving house 3 times in one week, TP,I offer you my congratulations on the new abode. Did you break the ritual coconut before entering?

kitty

testing to see my logo :) thanks TP

Sol

Pico beats MAndy in Valencia. And Fed takes the 1st set against Tipsy in Basel.
Anyone else watching?

MHM

I am watching Fed, Sol :-)

Jenny

Roger looks to be cruising.
'Pico' Monaco has just beaten the def champ Murray in Valencia, unfortunately I couldn't get to see it.

Jenny

Did anyone watch Pico/Andy - what happened?

Sol

He's looking good, isn't he MHM?
I like Tipsy but I hope Fed beats him quickly so he can go watch the FC Basel (soccer).
Jenny, are you disappointed that you didn't get to see MAndy lose or Pico win? ;)

MHM

Sol, It seems like those easy matches that make Fed bored, Tipsarevic isn't playing good, Roger is playing *his* mediocre..
Oh, Fed just broke: 4-3

Jenny

LOL, Sol! Delighted for Pico, he looked so happy, that's all I saw and the shake of the umpire's hand.

Sol

"mediocre"? Fed has lost ONE point on his serve in the 2nd set so far. I agree Tipsy isn't playing well but I think Fed intimidates him cause he's playing really well. Usually when he's bored, Fed shanks alot. I haven't seen any shanks so far. Yay.

Sol

Pico has a nice smile, doesn't he Jenny?
HOT ;)

MHM

Don't get me wrong, Sol. HIS mediocre: 1 break of serve in each set against intimidated Tipsarevic.
I like to see him winning these matches easier.. but i agree, I am tough on Fed..

Jill

Way to go Fed! I love Tipsy's little suitcase he wheels on and off court. Wish I'd seen the Murray/Monaco match. Does anyone know if Murray has gone off the boil again or was he doing his underestimating/not giving enough respect to the other player routine?

Sol

He was asked in his on-court interview in swiss-german if he thinks he's playing better as the tournament progresses. And he answered that beating a quality opponent in 2 sets in one hour is good enough, he doesn't necessarily need to play better than that. I think that sums it up.
You are tough, MHM. But it's all tough love when it comes to Fed, isn't it? ;)

Jenny

Imo, Pico's a sweetie, Sol. He has humility and gives his all on the court whoever he plays, so I would suggest he deserved his victory. He's no slouch on a hard court either. I must check the stats to give some idea why Murray lost.

MHM

"tough love"
Exactly, Sol!

Jenny

Jill, as I didn't see the Murray match, I can't comment on it's content, what I will say is, underestimate a tough, quality opponent, irrespective of ranking, at one's peril. Love Tipsy's wheels.

M

"I like Tipsy but I hope Fed beats him quickly so he can go watch the FC Basel (soccer)."

LOL.

This Basel schedule is so strange. I feel like people are progressing through the draw all lopsided.

Vamos Pico!!

banti

Missed the match, wow Fed in straight sets. Thought he might have to fight for this one. "Mediocre" kinda worries me. He can't afford to lose to Djokovic in Basel 2 years in a row, not an option! Sol are you too busy to catch him play live? Your in Basel right? Go see Fed play ! Seeing Fed in a small indoor venue in your hometown = have to go.

MHM

No worries, banti! please forget that "mediocre" thing.. I call anything but serving carbs "mediocre" when it comes to Roger :)

Kamke took first set against Berdych..

Jenny

Verdasco on his way his way home, beaten by Simon. Looks like Berdy is about to follow suit if he doesn't buck up.

Sol

No, Banti. Unfortunately, I don't live in Basel, I come from the french speaking part of Switzerland. But I've been to the swiss indoors twice already, seen Fed play there. Seeing him live is a whole different experience.
And trust me, today it was Fed, not Fred. He played some brilliant tennis. The comms were saying the forehand hasn't been this sharp in ages. If he is consistent and doesn't get bored, he should beat Djoko and whoever else stands in his way. Berdy doesn't look like he's going to get through the next round so that's one less opponent to worry about

Jenny

WOW, Tobias Kamke, what a match he played, well deserved victory.

banti

@MHM No worries totally understand, which of us Fed fans are not guilty of this one time or another? If he takes Basel down I think we can really get excited about his chances about Paris and the WTF. Winning these seem pretty high on his priority list.

@Sol That's right your from Stan's hometown, and he's from the French speaking part. Yeah watching Roger live is as good as it gets. Really wanta see him in an indoor arena before he retires. Speaking of the comms, Robbie Koenig kinda ticked me off during the first match. He thinks Roger will go slamless next year and Murray and Rafa are going to pull away from the pack.

Dee

 Just checking my smiley!

chipnputt

Anybody know what's up with Berdych? After Wimbledon, he played one good match against Fed in Canada. Otherwise, he can't seem to make it past the early rounds of anything. Anybody seen him playing and know what's wrong?

chieko

Hi I am glad Federer san won.

chieko

I think we should have a contest to see who recognises the most avatars by memory. I recoginse Jenny san and Banti san and myself now right away. I shall try to recogise more.

M

I think Padrino Annacone is haivng Roger work very hard on focusing his brilliance.
I like the way their partnership seems to be shaping up.

M

"having"
*headdesk*

Sorry, you all. Long day.

"He thinks Roger will go slamless next year and Murray and Rafa are going to pull away from the pack."

Banti, is Mr. Koenig's opinion evidence-based at all, or is he just, you know, yammering?

Bettyjane

Chipnputt---I know what you mean. I was wondering about this for a few weeks now. It's like he's forgotten how to compete because physically there doesn't seem to be anything going on. This was his problem before he "broke through".

M

Chieko san, I think a tricky part of that might be that some of us seem to have the same avatars.
(Yours, of course, is unique. :-) )

For example, MHM and I appear to have the same one. So do Dee and Chipnputt.

I'm wondering if TypePad sorts the avatars by email provider ...?

banti

@M He asked Goodall if he thinks Roger will win a slam next year and after Lee replied that he does, Robbie said "I have to disagree, I think its Murray's time to break through" etc. He thinks with this and Rafa playing better on the hard courts, Roger will go slamless. Little premature I felt. No one comes out of the break into Oz better prepared than Fed.

banti

@Chip Berdman is playing like crap from what I've seen. He can't maintain a rally for longer than 10 shots from what I've seen recently. Out of form I guess. He's still super scary in the slams, where he seems to peak. He did lose early in the Open but if his game is on he's capable of beating anyone as this year as shown. He hits the ball harder than anyone on the tour in my opinion.

M

Thank you, Banti. What's really funny is now I remember that exchange; clearly I just tuned out after one of the commentators said Roger would win a Slam, lol.

"No one comes out of the break into Oz better prepared than Fed."

You know he and Rafa are both playing Abu Dhabi. I put a link in Wanna Post.

Sol

@Banti, it's just one guy's opinion. Robbie is an ok commentator but I trust other people more. For instance, Marc Rosset was commenting on Fed's match yesterday and he is always very objective when it comes to Fed (they don't like each other much for reasons that have to do with the Davis Cup and Severin Luthi). And he said that to him, Fed is still the best player in the world today despite Nadal's excellent year, and that he has no doubt in his mind that, if he's healthy and motivated, Fed will reach no. 20. I like that opinion more so I'll go with Rosset ;)
About Berdy, I didn't see the match yesterday, but there's nothing new about his situation. He's always been a great player but he can't keep it up. Wimby was a fluke ;)

Jenny

D-Nal warming up on court with Cilic, lol I'm off! I've got Ferru later - Vamos Davids!

Sol

Ouch, Jenny, what's Nalby doing? Did Cilic choose this tournament of all tournaments to wake up and start playing some tennis?

Jenny

I know, it's that wretched serve letting him down.

Jenny

It's going to a 3rd, Cilic playing well, but Nalby's getting into the groove, the crowd are loving it.

Leon

At last, David has finished the job this time! Jenny, hope you are happy today!
And Radek was good, also. The veterans rule, eh?

eonr

I'm delighted, Leon. I've now gone to Valencia to watch the other David, also a vet.

Jenny

The last post with the strange name was me!

Sir Vibhudi Aatmapudi sr. the 3rd

Correction Jenny, your name is too sweet to be strange. The post with the strange name is me ;)

Leon

To the match N-C in Basel, let me remind this wonderful post from the archive:

http://tennisplanet.wordpress.com/2009/04/05/nalbandian-and-cilic/

Still can't stop smiling...

Jenny

lol I remember that Leon, thanks for the reminder! LOL I'm surprised TP didn't receive a snarling blond visitor knocking on his basement door!

M

Veterans rule indeed, Leon. Have you seen those Basel quarters.

Vamos Ferru!

Leon

Yes, I mostly have, M. Spent some time. It was nice to see, rather high quality of tennis. Djokovich looks serious. Jarkko was very good, he deserved smth better than a straight set loss, but alas. Yet, a nice time for him in the fall.

Jenny

Well played Marcel Granollers [Granola Bar] who has just beaten Pico and into the semis in Valenthia!

Jenny

Nalby and Roddick warming up!

ricky

HI there! Simon just beat Davydenko in Valencia, I missed the match, I love both players, was it good?

ricky

Monfils-Soderling starts now!

Bettyjane

I'm at work and really can't even stream today but please let me know how Andy's movement is. I'm curious if there's any issue with that groin injury

Jenny

Hi Ricky - I'm linked into the Roddick/Nalby match right now. Rod serving for the first set.

I saw a lot of the Davy/Simon match, it was good.

Jenny

Andy looking good, movement fine, serving well and has taken the first set.

Bettyjane

Ugh. thanks Jen. I'm pulling for Nalby as well.

Jenny

It doesn't look good for David. Andy playing well, David not handling his serve and not playing his best.

Unconfirmed: Rafa has pulled out of Paris.

Jenny

Not the most exciting of matches, unless Nalby can pull off some magic which isn't happening thus far..

Jenny

A deserved victory for Andy.

Jenny

Soderling through in 53mins. No real tennis sparklers on our Bonfire night, more like damp squibs!

wuiches

Jenny could you hear the reason why nadal was pulling out of paris??

Jenny

No, Wuiches. Our comms just mentioned it as unconfirmed.

ricky

I heard Nadal in not going to Bercy for "medical" reasons.

wuiches

thanks Jenny!!!

chipnputt

From the ATP site:

PLAYER NEWS
NADAL WITHDRAWS FROM PARIS
by ATP Staff | 05.11.2010
Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from next week’s BNP Paribas Masters for medical reasons. The Spaniard will discuss his withdrawal when he appears on site in Paris for a media conference on Sunday or Monday.

Nadal, who was a finalist at the BNP Paribas Masters in 2007 and a semi-finalist last year, has played 18 consecutive ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments and in 33 of the past 35 Masters 1000s. The Spaniard last played three weeks ago, when he fell to Jurgen Melzer in the third round of the Shanghai Rolex Masters.

Nadal, who has already clinched the year-end No. 1 South African Airways 2010 ATP World Tour Ranking after a banner year in which he won three Grand Slam titles, is next scheduled to play at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at London’s O2, from 21-28 November.

banti

Lets hope he gets over his "medical reasons" before the WTF.

stella

Koenig said it was fatigue.

So far so good for Federer.

Happy Guy Fawkes bonfire night Jenny

Jenny

Hey Stella, thanks! It's pretty quiet around here right now, weather not good. Plenty of bangs and whooshes earlier, my dog hates it, the cat is chilled.

stella

my cat used to hide under the bed.But then she went under the bed when the doorbell rang too.

stella

the comms just said the tickets for Roger v Rafa in Switzerland sold out in 2 minutes

Jenny

My previous cat was very nervy with everything and a hider, it was a shame. This boy couldn't care less and sleeping through it on the sofa.

stella

Fluffs was very nervy in the house and would hide under the bed if there was any loud noise but if she was out in the garden she'd fluff her tail out, hold it up high and approach anyone walking along the path by the back garden to get a rub

Jenny

Congrats Roger and Ferru - through to the semis. Starace made the first set very competitive.

Some cats can act very strangely, nervy one minute, bold as brass the next. Star would never surface when we had visitors, but reappear immediately they left.

M

"the comms just said the tickets for Roger v Rafa in Switzerland sold out in 2 minutes"

It took a little longer for the ones in Madrid to sell out, Stella - apparently that took a whole 6 hours.

jennifur

was hoping 4 nalbandian.

go fed ... go nole ... 4 rematch of l.yrs final...

valencia?? ferrer or soderling shud win it prolly ....

CHIEKO

Hello thank you for all the comments!!

chieko

THank you .

chieko

Thank you for all the comments.

Sol

Anyone watching the all Serbs match? Troicki's serve is really scary and Djoko is playing some brilliant shots. A great match so far.

stella

yes, I'm watching it. Some amazing points

Sol

Hi Stella. I feel sorry for Troicki, he should have won the 1st set, but he choked AGAIN, just like at the USO.
But if Fed beats Roddick, we'll have the dream final tomorrow so we just need Fed to do his job now.

Jenny

Hi guys
In Valencia first set to David.

Sol

Hi Jenny
Fed breaks already. Love seeing him play like that. THe FH is scary.
Go Ferru
