banti

Jenny, they had a write up on Nishikori on the ATP site a few days ago, explaining how he's worked intensely on his strength etc. Hoping he's just adjusting to this training on the court and he'll break through this year. Enjoy his game, seems to have a likable demeanor as well. Sasha and Milos better be ready for Oz, lots of points to defend.

Jenny

Hi banti. I'm sure Nishikori works really hard off court, nice game, but I don't see him making a big break through, more down to size and lack of overall power - I reckon 10/15 will be his plateau. Happy to be proved wrong though.

Tsonga making hard work of it in Doha, doesn't handle the windy conditions well.

Jenny

Sasha retires with an injured ankle. Serena retires, twists ankle.

Dom

Too bad Serena retired, saw the video when she got her ankle twisted, hope she get a quick recovery...

Jenny

Apologies, I found out later that she didn't retire but went on to win the match after strapping and treatment. The sprain looked nasty.

Leon

Which Sasha retires, Jenny? Dolgopolov is scheduled to play Radek. Have I missed smth?
So feel for Becker today. The guy so much deserved a win , excellent attacking game, it's only age that stopped him, cruel thing...

Jenny

Leon, I didn't see the match, not televised here, but heard the news via the Doha Eurosport comms today. Mind you, they did say Serena had retired, so who really knows. You're right, because according to the schedule, Sasha is due to play Stepanek.

Felt for Becker too.

Stella

is this where I take a guess at that Wall of Famequestion.
did he crack ? Are you referring to something to do with the "pickig " in the " butt crack " area. didn't see he match. did he perhaps stop the picking ?

banti

"did he crack ? "

The fear of facing Novak in the final is finally affecting his game in the semis?

Xeres

WOF:

Nadal would rather lose to Ferru than lose to his arch nemesis these days ? ;)
Had he gone on to the finals and lost Djoker the H2H would have been 16-14.

Jenny

WOF:

I did see most of Rafa's match, but I haven't a clue!

Sasha is playing Steps right now, maybe the comms meant Albert Ramos turned his ankle?

Jenny

WOF:

Just re-read TP's question, LOL Abu Dhabi, still no clue other than Ferru beat him, but that's always been on the cards on a hard court, it's happened before.

Jenny

LOL I've now tracked Albert Ramos down! He's playing Tsonga in DOHA!

Jenny

An easier day for Tsonga against the inexperienced Ramos. He does lose focus so will have to step it up from now on.

Roger up next. Looking forward to Misha/Rafa.

Sasha through in Brisbane.

Sol

Does anyone know what's up with Fed? Did he break a leg or something? Why is he down 0-3 in the 2nd set against Seppi?

BTW, Happy new year everyone!

Jenny

Rogi losing focus, a lapse this 2nd set, Seppi has upped his level. It's a concern.

Hi Sol! Nice to see you.

Sol

Hi Jenny! I was thinking of you the other day. I was in London for New Year's eve and was wondering what you were doing.

Sol

I think it's the 1st time ever that Seppi takes a set off Roger.
It's too bad, he managed to come back from 1-5 to eventually lose 5-7. Is it an ugly match, Jenny? Is it windy?

Jenny

No comments about wind today, looks calm enough, it was bad the other day. We stayed in New Year's eve, not into crowds and all that, saw the fireworks on TV and went to bed. Did you have a good time?

Sol

Yeah, not into crowds myself. We were at a private party, we had a great time. Had a great view of the fireworks.

Jenny

Rafa looking very impressive and Mischa has been darn good, can't see beyond Rafa for the title especially the way he's playing right now. This is the 'old' determined Rafa.

M

Who Let the Dog Out?

Woof! Woof, woof-woof, woof!

:-)

banti

Roger out to rest his back. Great choice, incredibly tough one i'm sure for the Iron man of this sport.

Jenny

I heard, wise decision.

Jenny

Nice on court interview with Koenig. He said it was a tough decision for him and thanked the fans understanding. Very rare for Roger to pull out mid tourney, 2008 Paris was the last time against Blake [?], before that against Younes El Aynaoui years ago, it was his back then. Recover well Roger.

Exo with Tsonga and Edberg which replaces the Fed match.

Bonnie

Thanks for the information Jenny. I hadn't heard this, as I'm woking, so I appeciate the update. Sorry that Roger had to retire, but it is a wise decision indeed. I hope he recovers completely and has a fabulous year.

Jenny

Kim Clijsters retires injured [hip?] in Brisbane.

Jenny

Rafa in trouble, Gael is in the zone and blasting Rafa off the court first set - superb tennis from him. Could this be an all French final?

banti

2008 Paris was the last time mid tourney, not sure when it was before that making this withdrawal special indeed. With a slam less than 2 weeks away, definitely a wise choice. Also think what may have happened is that he took more time off than he traditionally does during the holiday season, and he's paying for it at the moment. He needs to focus on being at his physical best in 2-3 month stretches throughout the season and not day in and day out at this point. Expect him to be fit for Oz but less so than in previous years, as he's looking to peak in the summer rather than the start of the year. Late spring is when he takes the time off to train like he's 'Rocky':)

Stella

can't believe I missed seeing Edberg. Anyone got a video of it ?

Veglia

Fear of facing Djokovic in the final sounds like the best answer but since Banti already said that I'm going to try a different one: by making his racquet heavier he's implicitly admitting that one-trick pony (top spin forehand BS until cows come home) will not work any more. Nole dismantled it, Murray is going to do so soon, even Monfils today.

Jenny

Congrats Jo-Willy, winner in Doha, well deserved. La Monf was not the same player today, typical!

The AO withdrawal list is growing like Pinnochio's nose!

Jenny

Lovely to see past champs in Doha celebrating the 20th Anniversary. Roger, Fabrice, Younes, Nicolas Escude, Stefan Edberg, Stefan Koubek - vid messages from Davydenko, Courier, plus others [memory fails]

Jenny

Andy Murray has won the Brisbane title in easy straights [1-3]. Milos Raonic won in Chennai in a tough 3 [7-7] battle - Congrats to both. I see Raonic served up 35 aces to Tipsy's 8. I like Milos but would like to see him add more variety to his game and not rely on just a big serve to win matches in breakers. According to the stats pretty awful lst ROS from both of them.

banti

"Winner: Banti" Nice, finally! Late Christmas Gift TP?:) One week from a slam, exciting!

Jenny

Belated congrats!

banti

Thanks Jenny, were lucky as we know how his twisted mind thinks:)
