In 2002, out of nowhere, Thomas Johansson won AO. Now this year at FO, the 3rd and final slam, can we have someone like that win it all?

Gary Lee Moser

Johansson had previously won the Canadien Open [ Rogers Cup ],
had previously made it to not one but two U S Open Quarter-Finals,
and was ranked #18 in the world going into the 2002 AO.

Pretty far up from "nowhere", IMO.

But...yes...this year's FO would seem to lend itself to such a scenario.
